Diptychs (2024)

A series of construction drawings made in pairs. Pairs which are never to be seen together. One - a physical drawing, hand made in luminous colours - would be sent to Prof. G. N. Saibaba, in prison. The other is what you see here, for us on the outside. A ghost image, digital format, drained of colour. No touch, no smell.

Dear Sai

While you were in jail I carried on my job as an architect alongside my activism. But your poems and letters made their way into that work too, in unexpected ways. For instance, the way I drew construction detail drawings began to change…I decided I would send the drawings to you and your fellow prisoners as a tribute. (Sofia Karim, letter to Professor G. N. Saibaba)
